Tariq Shah lauded the progress made in the Thar Block One project, which includes the installation of a 7.8 million tonne per annum (MTPA) open-pit coal mine and a 1.3 gigawatt highly electrically powered coal-fired power plant.
About 40% of the work related to coal mining has been completed while construction work on the power plant is also underway. The mining work will be completed by the end of 2021 and the first unit of the power plant will also start operating from 2022. The entire project will be completed by 2023.
