It appears we have seen the end of a WWE championship that has been around in the company for a number of years.
One of the big storylines on NXT as of late has been the demise of the D’Angelo Family.
After Noam Dar had to relinquish the NXT Heritage Cup Championship a few weeks ago, former D’Angelo Family teammates Tony D’Angelo and Channing ‘Stacks’ Lorenzo had a match for the title, which Stacks won.
Tonight at the WWE NXT Great American Bash, a series of videos played leading up to this coming Tuesday’s three-way match between D’Angelo, Stacks and Luca Crusifino.
In the videos, Stacks was shown confronting WWE Performance Center head coach Matt Bloom, but when he turned around, his Heritage Cup trophy had been stolen.
In a later video, it was revealed that it was D’Angelo who stole the trophy.
D’Angelo then proceeded to head out to the bridge where the D’Angelo family have often disposed of their victims, throwing the trophy off the bridge to “sleep with the fishes”.
Therefore, it appears we have seen the end of the Heritage Cup, which had seemed like it’d been on the verge of being phased out for several months already.
The Heritage Cup was a unique championship in that matches were usually contested under British Rounds Match rules, as it was first introduced in NXT UK in 2020.
Its list of champions are A-Kid (Axiom), Tyler Bate, Noam Dar (four times), Mark Coffey, Nathan Frazer, Charlie Dempsey (twice), Tony D’Angelo, Lexis King and Stacks.
