Richard Hurst, Cletus on ‘Dukes of Hazzard,’ dead at 79


Richard “Rick” Hurst, known for his role as Deputy Cletus Hogg on “The Dukes of Hazzard,” died Thursday at the age of 79.

His first wife, Candace Kaniecki, told TMZ that Hurst’s death was unexpected.

The cause of death is not known.

According to the report, Hurst was scheduled to make an appearance at Cooter’s Place in Pigeon Forge, Tenn., on July 3.

Best known for the role in “Dukes of Hazard,” he appeared in shows like “Sanford and Son,” “The Partridge Family,” “MASH*,” “Gunsmoke” and “The Bob Newhart Show.”

His son, actor Ryan Hurst, is best known for his roles in “Sons of Anarchy” and “Remember the Titans.”
