It’s Game 5 of the Eastern Conference finals on Thursday night, as the Indiana Pacers are looking to close out the New York Knicks at Madison Square Garden and advance to the NBA Finals for the first time in 25 years. Indiana leads the series, 3-1, after Tyrese Haliburton posted a triple-double to lift the Pacers to a Game 4 victory on Tuesday. It was the first time in the series when the home team won.
History is not on New York’s side. The Knicks are 0-15 in series where they’ve been down 3-1 in the playoffs. Before its Game 4 setback, New York picked up a much-needed win on Sunday as Karl-Anthony Towns led a fourth-quarter charge for a Game 3 win. Towns is listed as questionable for Thursday’s tilt with a left knee contusion.
The Pacers are seeking their first NBA Finals appearance since 2000. The Oklahoma City Thunder, who dispatched the Minnesota Timberwolves in the Western Conference finals, 3-1, will host the East winner in Game 1 of the NBA Finals on June 5.
