The Minnesota Timberwolves are investigating an incident involving a fan who allegedly directed “racially charged comments” at Draymond Green during Game 2 of the Western Conference semifinals.
Per a statement from the T-Wolves’ public relations team, one fan was ejected for violating the NBA fan code of conduct, and a second individual is being investigated after being accused of making the racially charged remarks toward Green.
Fan footage from inside the arena during the fourth quarter appeared to show someone directing the remark toward Green while he was on a stationary bike.
Green was seen saying something to someone in the crowd. ESPN’s Ohm Youngmisuk noted Warriors security confirmed a fan was ejected for directing a racial slur at Green.
The fan was escorted out of the arena by security. The second individual who is being investigated left on his own before the security team could confirm his identity.
Per the NBA’s official fan code of conduct, fans who don’t adhere to the policy are subject to penalty that can include but is not limited to ejection, revocation of season tickets and/or a ban from attending games in the future.
Speaking to reporters after the game, Green spoke about being “tired of the agenda to make me look like an angry Black man.”
It’s unclear if Green was talking specifically about the fan incident. He also received a technical foul from the officials in the second quarter after hitting Timberwolves center Naz Reid with an elbow.
Green has now been called for five technical fouls so far this postseason. He is two away from receiving an automatic one-game suspension.
Minnesota defeated Golden State 117-93 in Game 2 to even the Western Conference semifinals 1-1 as the series shifts to Chase Center for the next two games.
