Ask any couple what they fight about and they’ll likely be able to give you a few topics they have on rotation. What they’re eating for dinner, for example, or where they’re going to go on vacation, or who’s going to clean out the hair that’s clogging the bathtub. It’s normal! Everyone does it. Everyone except George and Amal Clooney, that is.
Two years ago, the couple appeared on CBS Mornings and described their marriage as “the easiest thing in our lives by far.” They also told Gayle King that they’ve never, ever, had a fight. “It’s maddening to some of our friends,” Amal said. “I have a cousin actually, every time we see him, he’s like, his first question is, ‘So have you had an argument yet?’” Apparently, we have an answer.
George returned to CBS Mornings on Monday, April 21, to discuss his broadway debut in Good Night, and Good Luck and had an update on the couple’s lack of conflict: Still, no fighting. “We still haven’t,” he said. “We’re trying to find something to fight about.” Does it sound too good to be true? Yes. Does George appear to know that? Also yes. “I feel so extraordinarily lucky to have met this incredible woman, and I feel as if I hit the jackpot,” he continued. “There isn’t a day that goes by that I don’t think I’m the luckiest man in the world.”
I’m not buying it. You’re telling me a couple that’s been together for over a decade has never had to fight about who’s taking the trash out? What about picking the kids up from school? Or whose turn it is to fold the laundry? Maybe I’m being cynical. Maybe they really do have a perfect relationship that’s all happiness and rainbows. I’m sure if I lived in a villa on Lake Como, it would be hard to find things for me to fight about, too.
