CeeDee Lamb candid about drops, his solution to ‘get it fixed’

“I gotta lock in on my mentals, man,” Lamb said as he works toward what he and the Cowboys believe will be a bounceback game against the Kansas City Chiefs on Thanksgiving. “It ain’t really too much going on as far as catching the ball. It’s not really anybody in my way. I’m the only one guarding myself,
I feel like.

“So, yeah, we’re gonna fix that. I just gotta lock in, be myself, and do what got me here. I’m in this position for a reason. And, uh, I know I’m ready for it.”

In dissecting film on Lamb’s drops, it’s clear none of them are due to any sort of great defensive play or coverage. The issue is evident, glaring, and one Lamb has identified after breaking down his own film this week.

Simply put: catch and run, not run and catch.

“It’s really just a lack of focus on my end, honestly,” the four-time Pro Bowl receiver explained on Tuesday. “Just thinking of doing two before one. And there’s been plenty of that going on. And by that, I mean, I’m thinking about my next move before catching the ball, and things of that nature. There’s not really much on anybody else but myself, and I’ve never been a type to really point the finger.

“It’s all on me, and I gotta answer that.”

There was at least some redemption to be had in the rematch against the Eagles by way of Lamb making a highlight downfield grab for 48 yards, on a drive that ended in a Brevyn Spann-Ford touchdown to make it a one-possession game going into the fourth quarter.

The last time Lamb was tasked with answering that issue, he delivered 112 receiving yards and a touchdown in a resurgent outing against the New York Giants in Week 2, hauling in all nine of his targets from All-Pro quarterback Dak Prescott. That’s what he expects to do on a short week with a dynamic Chiefs’ defense attempting to bear down on the Cowboys, their goal being to try and delete both Lamb and George Pickens, the latter being on an absolute heater in 2025.

Lamb could not be more excited for Pickens and “hopes he does it again” in racking up another 100-yard game this week, but he also wants to do his part, and hearing head coach Brian Schottenheimer describe his demeanor after Sunday as “Lamb has that look in his eyes” serves as a bit of a warning that Lamb doubled down on.

“No, I just find ways to get better,” he said. “I want to be solution-oriented and not really dwell on the problem. Granted, we know the problem — I need to catch the f–king ball. When I do catch it, just be ready.”
