The NBA’s latest gambling scandal has resulted in one of the league’s head coaches being released on an eye-popping bail figure.
Via NBCNews.com, Portland Trail Blazers coach Chauncey Billups, after pleading not guilty to his role in an allegedly rigged, mafia-backed poker game, was released on $5 million in bail.
Billups is charged with wire fraud conspiracy and money laundering conspiracy.
The conditions of the bond release prevent him from having contact with witnesses, victims, co-conspirators or co-defendants. (That’s a standard term.)
The prosecutor handling the case confirmed in court that plea negotiations with several of the 31 defendants.
