Destiny 2 Renegades launch trailer leaks early via YouTube ad ahead of developer livestream

A new Destiny 2 Renegades launch trailer leak has appeared via a YouTube ad, giving us our first look at new story cinematics, characters, and Star Wars-style ships ahead of Bungie’s developer livestream.

We are less than two weeks out from Destiny 2’s next big expansion, Renegades, which launches on December 2. This is the first-ever expansion that takes direct inspiration from another sci-fi universe, Star Wars. Similar to previous expansion, Renegades will feature a new campaign, the Lawless Frontier activity, Blasters, Renegades abilities, Tharsis Outpost, and a new set of Exotic weapons and armor.

On top of that, the expansion arrives with a long list of system changes. Players are getting long-requested quality of life updates, like more Vault space, the Orders and Vanguard Alerts systems, and seasonal power not resetting. There’s also a brand-new dungeon launching called Equilibrium.

Over the last couple of days, Bungie has been slowly rolling out more details. We have already had official previews for new Exotic and legendary weapons for Renegades, as well as sandbox previews for Exotic armor and weapons.

Now it appears we got an early look at the upcoming Renegades launch trailer thanks to a leaked teaser that is running as a YouTube ad. (thanks, Dusk)

The ad in question is titled “Destiny 2: Renegades | Launch Trailer | Pre-Order 15s [US]” and, based on what we can see, it seems to have gone live early on the official Destiny 2 YouTube channel as a pre-roll ad. It is only fifteen seconds long, but it cuts together several shots that are taken straight from the full launch trailer. (Spoiler warning!)

The teaser mixes both pre-rendered cinematics and gameplay shots. We see Ikora Rey looking up at the sky. Drifter also appears, and he looks older than ever, with a grey beard and a heavier, worn look. The third character shown is Aunor Mahal, strapped into what looks like a pilot chair. We got our first look at Aunor Mahal in the Renegades reveal trailer.

Another standout moment is the space combat. The ships shown in the teaser look heavily inspired by classic Star Wars capital ships, with long wedge-shaped hulls and a huge circular red core on the front. The ad also includes short gameplay snippets, featuring Titan, and the new Heirloom Solar Exotic Combat Bow. For a split second, we also see some weird orange energy (fire) sweeping across a planet that looks a lot like Mars.

You can check out screenshots from the teaser trailer below.

Earlier today, Bungie also confirmed a full Renegades developer livestream. The livestream goes live next week, on Tuesday, 25 November at 10 AM PT on the official Twitch, YouTube and TikTok channels. During the stream, Bungie will officially release the full Destiny 2: Renegades launch trailer, share a second Renegades ViDoc that focuses on Blasters and new Exotic gear, and more.

There is also a Twitch Drop attached. Watching at least 15 minutes of the Twitch livestream with your Bungie.net and Twitch accounts linked will unlock the new “Seekers, Not Saints” emblem.
