Suspect killed near Idaho Falls in officer-involved shooting over four-wheeler


One person was killed and another person was injured in a shooting allegedly over a four-wheeler.

At approximately 11 p.m. on Tuesday, deputies with the Bingham County Sheriff’s Office in Blackfoot, Idaho, were dispatched to the area of 1100 East and 1300 North, east of Shelly, Idaho, to investigate a possible shooting.

The caller reported that someone was trying to steal a homeowner’s four-wheeler when shots were fired.

Both the homeowner and the suspect were injured, and the suspect fled the scene, the caller said.

The deputies, with assistance from neighboring law enforcement agencies, arrived and found the suspect in a nearby field.

“Shots were fired by deputies from both agencies,” a press release states. “Deputies immediately began life-saving measures; however, the suspect died at the scene.”

The homeowner was transported to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The area was secured, and the investigation was turned over to the East Idaho Critical Incident Team, with the Pocatello Police Department as the lead agency.

Officers from the Shelley, Blackfoot, and Idaho State police departments; deputies with the Bonneville County Sheriff’s Office; and crews with Shelley Fire and Ambulance also responded.
