Experience the excitement of high-speed cars on Saturday at the Idaho Falls Raceway

IDAHO FALLS — This weekend, you can experience high-speed, competitive and exciting car racing on a dirt track in Idaho Falls.

Snake River Stock Car Association, a local nonprofit, runs the Idaho Falls Raceway located at 8433 West Arco Highway. This Saturday, Aug. 16, is a “Fan Appreciation” event.

“It’s something we look forward to. Not only do we have the car races, but we’re going to have plenty of other activities for the kids to do,” said Travis Walker, president of the nonprofit.

There will be bounce houses, face painting and concessions. There’s a raffle to raise money for the Idaho Falls Rescue Mission. The raffle is 50/50, meaning half of the donated proceeds will go to the Idaho Falls Rescue Mission, and the other half will be raffled off to a spectator.

There’s a canned food drive too. One can equals $1 off from general admission. (Limit is $1 off per person).

The event begins at 5 p.m. with go kart racing for kids. Then the cars race at 7 p.m. There are multiple heat races, and Walker said it gets increasingly exciting as the night goes on.

“When people think of race cars, they think like four-cylinder cars they see at the fair. No, we have high-speed vehicles out there,” he said.

There will be a meet-and-greet on the front stretch during intermission.

“We invite all of our drivers to bring their cars out … and then we invite all the people up in the stands to come walk on the racetrack and say hello to the drivers and get autographs,” Walker said. “They hand out all kinds of swag, candy and signed photos. It’s really a sight to see.”

Many local drivers participate and there are a few from surrounding states like Utah and Montana.

“We’ll have a good 100 cars in the pits, so we’ll get quite a bit of people out there,” he said.

Walker told EastIdahoNews.com that he grew up car racing in Utah. He started competitively when he was 18 years old. Now at almost 45, he is still racing.

“There are so many things that I love about it. The sights, the smells, the people you meet and the things you learn along the way,” Walker said.

He knows there are people in the area who have never been to the Idaho Falls Raceway and invites them to come out this weekend.

“Come experience some fast, dirt-slinging, high-paced fun for the whole family,” Walker said.

The Idaho Falls Raceway typically has races every other weekend in the summer months, usually from June to the end of September. The venue can seat around 700 spectators.

General admission prices are $13 for adults (13-64), $8 for seniors (65+), $8 for military (active duty, veterans and National Guard), $6 for kids (6-12) and free for 5 and under. The GetOutPass is accepted too.
