The Gathering Edge of Eternities Card Preview

Edge of Eternities is Magic: The Gathering’s next expansion. It’s a “science-fantasy” set and (to my delight) is the next set with in-universe Magic lore and story. Today, I’m beyond excited to reveal Temple of Geek’s exclusive preview card before the full set drops on August 1. Introducing, Pinnacle Kill-Ship.

A Good Showcase For the New Station Ability

Pinnacle Kill-Ship is a 7-mana colorless Spacecraft artifact. It features the new Station mechanic, which functions similarly to Crew on Vehicles. Once enough charge counters have been placed on it via the Station ability, it becomes a 7/7 Flying artifact creature. This enables it to attack and block. When it enters the battlefield, it deals 10 damage to up to one target creature. This will likely be a bomb in Edge of Eternities’ Limited format (although not quite first-pick worthy). The ETB ability is undoubtedly powerful, as is all removal in Limited, but the 7-mana cost might be too high. Although its Colorless mana cost means any deck could play it, so time will tell.

In terms of Constructed play, I can’t imagine this will make a splash in eternal formats like Modern or Legacy. For Commander, there are definitely better options. But in Standard, this could serve as the top-end of a ramp strategy’s curve. I could even see this showing up in some Pauper Tron decks, as well.

Edge of Eternities Is a Promising New In-Universe Expansion

Featuring art from Alexandre Honoré, this common artifact takes a gorgeous blend of dark colors that help make the Spacecraft pop. This specific blend of colors is present on dozens of other cards and much of the set’s promotional material, so kudos to art directors Taylor Ingvarsson and Vic Ochoa on the beautiful consistency.

In our Edge of Eternities preview, we go a bit into detail with Pinnacle. This organization is the dominant governing body of the Edge, where Sothera System is located, and where our story with longtime Magic villain Tezzeret takes place. This new set is also home to dozens of gorgeous alternate art and showcase cards, which you can peruse here.

Magic: The Gathering Edge of Eternities releases August 1.

Special thanks to Wizards of the Coast for the exclusive opportunity to reveal this card!
