2 found dead at Brentwood home owned by director Rob Reiner; LAPD launches murder investigation

BRENTWOOD, Calif. (KABC) — Two people were found dead Sunday at a Los Angeles home owned by director Rob Reiner, prompting the Los Angeles Police Department to launch a murder investigation, officials and sources said.

Firefighters responded at 3:38 p.m. to a medical aid call at a home in the 250 block of Chadbourne Avenue in Brentwood, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department. The deceased were identified only as a man and woman ages 78 and 68 years old, the LAFD said.

Senior law enforcement sources told ABC News that the victims were stabbed to death.

Police initially began a death investigation that later developed into a murder case, LAPD sources told ABC News, adding that property records show the house belongs to Reiner.

The LAPD’s Robbery-Homicide Division is leading the investigation, and the department’s senior leadership is responding to the scene.

According to a neighbor, actors Billy Crystal and Larry David arrived separately at the home on Sunday evening. The two comedians stayed briefly before departing, and Crystal “looked like he was about to cry,” the neighbor said.

The Reiner family also owns a house across the street from the home where the bodies were found. Reiner and his wife live in one, and his daughter with children lives in the other.

The son of comedy legend Carl Reiner, Rob Reiner is known for massive Hollywood hits, including “The Princess Bride,” “When Harry Met Sally…,” “Stand By Me,” “This is Spinal Tap” and many more.

He and his wife, Michele Singer, got married in 1989 and share three children, Jake, Nick and Romy.

Reiner was previously married to actor-director Penny Marshall from 1971 to 1981. He adopted her daughter, Tracy Reiner. Carl Reiner died in 2020 at age 98 and Marshall died in 2018.
